Description
The inaugural release of the SA Mint’s “The African Range” explores the anatomy of a cheetah’s hunt through five stages: Survey, Stalk, Chase, Catch, and Repose. The 2026 collection begins with “Survey”—the moment of complete awareness, stillness, and anticipation.
Both the obverse and reverse designs are inspired by the celebrated sculptures of internationally renowned South African artist Dylan Lewis. The reverse features the cheetah in a poised surveying stance, while the obverse displays a cropped profile of the animal. Thanks to the striking high-relief minting technology, the design takes on a deep, sculptural quality.
This legal tender coin carries a face value of R10 (Ten Rand) and contains two ounces of .999 fine silver, giving it a total weight of 62.238 grams. In terms of its physical dimensions, the silver piece features a diameter of 38.65 mm. To maintain its strong collector appeal and long-term numismatic value, the release is restricted to a strictly limited mintage of just 2,500 pieces worldwide. Each coin comes fully protected and beautifully presented inside an official South African Mint display box, accompanied by a uniquely numbered Certificate of Authenticity to verify its limited-edition status.
