Description
The 2026 half-ounce gold Krugerrand is an iconic South African legal tender coin containing 15.55 grams of pure gold within a durable 22-karat copper alloy, featuring the classic portrait of Paul Kruger and the leaping springbok antelope. The front side of the coin displays the historic profile portrait of Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger, the revered former president of the South African Republic, flanked by the dual inscriptions of the nation’s name in Afrikaans and English as Suid-Afrika and South Africa. The back side depicts the national animal of South Africa, a bounding springbok antelope, designed originally by sculptor Coert Steynberg. The reverse also includes the split year date of 2026, the text Krugerrand, and the fine gold weight specification of Fyngoud 1/2 oz Fine Gold. While authorised as legal tender, the coin carries no face value inscription because its worth is directly tied to the fluctuating global market value of physical gold.
