Description
Since its inception in 1967, the Krugerrand has become one of the most recognised and liquid gold bullion coins in the world. The 2026 edition continues this historic legacy, produced jointly by the South African Mint and the Rand Refinery. The South African Krugerrand is struck with a total weight of 33.93 grams, containing exactly 1 oz (31.1035 grams) of pure gold. It is minted in 22-karat gold with a fineness of .9167, utilising an 8.33% copper alloy to create its iconic, durable, and orange-tinted “crown gold” appearance. In terms of physical dimensions, each coin measures 32.77 mm in diameter and 2.84 mm in thickness. The obverse side of the coin features the detailed effigy of Paul Kruger, the former President of the South African Republic, which is beautifully struck using original historic dies. This portrait is elegantly encircled by the country’s name written in both Afrikaans (SUID-AFRIKA) and English (SOUTH AFRICA). On the reverse side, the design depicts the iconic national animal of South Africa, the Springbok antelope, which is surrounded by the coin’s name and the 2026 year of issue.
